Welcome to OutChicago, a meta-index of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Internet sites in the Chicago area. OutChicago is a community-based effort to index the expanding number of queer Internet sites in our area to provide a centralized resource for the Chicago LesBiGay community. We hope that OutChicago will put more people in touch with the information they need to help strengthen our community.

OutChicago was envisioned by an informal working group composed of volunteers and representatives from Chicago area organizations and businesses interested in fostering a more visible LesBiGay Internet presence for Chicago and its environs.  Greg Lanier, Tom Jevec, and Magdalena Donea were the members of the original project team that designed and established the site.  Much of this early development was sponsored by the Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and Gerber/Hart Library.

In 1998, in order to secure OutChicago's long-term sustainability, Gerber/Hart Library adopted the project as one of its program activities, enhancing its mission to "dispel homophobia through knowledge."  Greg Lanier and Matt Smith redesigned the site during this transition period. Currently, OutChicago is maintained by Matt Smith, a Gerber/Hart volunteer.
