People these days are beginning to look back at their roots and a simpler life. Herbal medicine is very much ordinary, hence the state-level legalization of medical marijuana in 16 states; it’s becoming commonplace more and more as time goes on.

However, each of those 16 states has it’s own laws and an Oregon patient’s marijuana prescription cannot be filled anywhere else unless a particular state honors Oregon prescriptions. For instance, Colorado honors prescription cards from Oregon, but California and Washington don’t. It’s a federal offense to take marijuana across a state line, especially into a state where it’s still illegal.

Traveling With Marijuana is NOT Recommended

Driving under the influence can kill people, so get someone else to drive or wait until reaching the destination to medicate. Be aware that many insurances won’t pay if marijuana is found at a wreck scene. Keep to designated medicating areas that can be found online.

If children are in the car and it gets pulled over, many states now have a law that requires them to take the car from people suspected of drug trafficking (taking it across state lines). If they take the car, well, now the passengers are left without a ride home – and if the car belongs to the driver, who is not the person with the medical marijuana, that‘ll really upset him or her to have their car taken away.

Also, the driving record takes a serious hit; child endangerment is a pretty ugly charge and they take away the children, too.

Just don’t try it, it’s too costly in so many ways.

Most people tune into the news for weather, sports, and happenings around the local residence. Few people realize the impact however that exposure to crime on the news can have on the public. While there are good news stories and portrayals of kindness and selflessness, there is also an inordinate amount of crime on the news with stories often told in graphic nature. Here are three ways the evening news and broadcast violence can cause more harm than good.

1.) Effects on Children- Many parents will go to great lengths to make sure their children do not view television shows with wild depictions of violence. Fewer parents however exercise the same caution when it comes to the evening news. Indeed, the news depicts images of children being starved and beaten and women being murdered and raped. Often these cases happen in the same area the children live only adding to the fear they may have from this exposure.

2.) Ideas For Other Criminals- Many criminals addicted to drugs are willing to do anything to get them. When the evening news broadcasts instances in which pharmacies are held up for pain medication pills or corner stores are robbed and the offender is never caught, it gives other criminals the idea that they may be able to get away with it too. The end result is an increase in crime instead of just public awareness.

3.) Makes Violence Seem Too Common- Indeed, the stigma attached to violent crime are lessened when they are glorified on the evening news. Rather than avoid it, potential criminals craving the spotlight may commit crimes just to be on TV.

Are you planning on visiting Chicago, the windy city? This fair city brings people from all over the world, and everyone tends to come for completely different reasons. What brings you to Chicago?

Getting the Most Out of a Visit to Chicago

If you want to get the most out of a visit to Chicago, then you need to have a decent idea of what you want to do when you arrive. The Magnificent Mile is a shopping district on North Michigan Avenue. Oak Street is lined with trendy boutiques. The Spirit of Chicago and Odyssey are two dinner cruise lines that are well worth checking out while in Chicago. Also recommended are Millennium Park, Hancock Observatory and the Sears Tower Skydeck. It should come as no surprise to you that there are hundreds of things to do in the city of Chicago, and getting the most out of this fair city may mean making a list of all the things that you want to do and see.

Take some time before your trip to research everything that Chicago has to offer. Create a concise list of everything that you want to see, so when you arrive in Chicago you will already know what things are most important to you. Whether you want to shop or sightsee, Chicago has a lot for you to take in, and the only way you are going to see it all is if you have a good working plan that you can follow when you arrive.

Entertainment has always been a favorite pastime for any individual irrespective of cast, creed, location, religion etc. Though the term entertainment differs from individual to individual but the end point of view is the same. An entertainment can mean a pleasant getaway with the family to some Zoo, a Theme park, a Movie or may even to the beach. It can also mean to relax the state of mind of an individual or of a group of individuals by having a stroll in a serene and a peaceful place.

It can also be like going out for an adventurous trip and getting involved in some adventurous sports like bungee jumping, paragliding, wind surfing, roller blade skating etc. For some, entertainment can simply mean going out for clubbing and drinking the night out. Entertainment has its own good and ill effects. It can help you learn and explore new things but when misused it could be the low point in one’s life. Healthy entertainment always affects the health in a positive way whereas an entertainment of a negative type could be disastrous to life. Sometimes it could cost an individual’s life too. Hence it should be the motto of every individual that in all his endeavors he should try to rise and grow

Entertainment doesn’t necessarily mean sitting for hours in front of the television or doing things which are not expected to be done by civilized men. It means enjoying everything what the world has to offer, but we have to be selective in what choose cause in the end we become what we choose.

Weather plays an important role in every individual’s life whether we accept it or not. It affects us in one way or the other though we ignore it and there is no escape from its fury. Mother nature is famously known to share its calm and soothing effects and is also famous for the rage that it showers and there is no escaping from it. In terms of practicality, weather is the state of the atmosphere. The term weather doesn’t include a single criterion. It is the conglomerate of different aspects i.e. surface wind, rain, snow, storms, cyclones, dust storms, gale winds temperatures, etc.

As a matter of fact the subject of weather is so vast that the great Albert Einstein who once considered studying Meteorology had to change his subject quoting that the subject” Weather was very vast and never ending”. In the present scenario there is so much of change in the atmospheric stability. We have heard the famously green house effect, global warming, depletion of forests, and depletion of various natural resources. All this has happened due to the greed of mankind to perform better and get a upper hand than his neighbor. This clueless competition has brought the world to the brink of extinction. Though the happy part is that a certain percentage of people have begun to respect and have started to protect the environment.

The famously known group like the “Green Peace” has had a major impact on the mass. People have become more environment conscious and plan their vacations to calm and serene place than place with a lot of hustle bustle.

The moment you hear law and order you would probably think of a TV serial or a movie. Law and order is something which indicates the application of law in a system and the bringing about of order in the same. It is essential to have law and order in any country because each nation has to face its own problems and crimes which have to be controlled and penalized.

Without law and order, everybody would be free to do as they like. You can loot people whenever you want, commit murders when you feel angry with someone or make an illegal transaction when you want more money. It is the fear of the law and the respect for the concept of legal and illegal actions that restrains you from doing things which are not good in a moral sense.

Every nation has its own version of law and order. What is legal in one country may not be allowed in another. For example, Saudi Arabia considers it a crime to bring alcoholic beverages into its premises because their culture does not permit it. On the other hand, India produces alcoholic beverages for its people and also imports it for the same because it is legal.

This is a very hypothetical example but nevertheless something simple to understand. The reasons for disparity in the laws and orders of different countries are due to the difference in their culture and values. Each country has its own view of what they call legal and those they call illegal because of this difference in the way they perceive things.

Most people are not aware of the surroundings to which they belong to. They may either not have the time to read the news or get to know the threats which surround them, or they are not bothered about the consequences of the criminal tendencies of the people around them. Another reason might be that they are simply too confident that nothing can go wrong in their lives.

Being aware of your surroundings is very important. You have to know if there has been any particular crime in the area which you live in, or if there has been any crime which has been repeating over a time period recently. Being aware of such things allows you to be prepared in case of some problem that can arise when you are out on the streets at a time not suitable for you.

Crime is something which goes on in different parts of the world all the time. It is something which comes naturally to people. There have been a lot of cases of crimes being done on many people around the world and some of them are too shocking for words. Crime brings the worst in you; the negative characters which you have taught are not something which you should encourage.

One of the main mistakes you can ever do is to be confident that nothing can harm you. This is something which most of the people assume. They think they are free from all the harm and it can happen only to others. This is a wrong belief as crime or misfortunes can happen to anybody at any time.

You might have heard of serial killers form time to time. It is quite difficult to believe that such people do exist in the world until you come in touch with some similar tragedy directly or indirectly. This is something which most of the people experience for all tragedies in the world. They don’t realize that it is something which can happen to anyone until it happens to them.

Serial killers have been around for a long time. There have been records of serial killers who had existed centuries back, some even before that. They have terrorized nations, made people live a life in hell with fear and have had power over the people’s minds in one way or the other in terms of fear and terrorizing, which are very powerful emotions.

There are no clear cut ways to pinpoint the force that drives a person to become a serial killer. The tendency to be one is there in everybody no doubt. You may think that you are not at all suitable to be a serial killer and that you can never be one. But that is a wrong assumption. Each and every person in the world has the potential to be a serial killer.

It is the effect of education and morals that have been drilled into you that holds you back from being a serial killer. If you are honest to yourself, you would say that you do feel some perverse excitement when you hear of a killing. It is because of this nature of man that he listens carefully to the news and telecasts of killings and murders. It is a global phenomena and not something restricted to you.

It is just that some people know where their values and morals lie while others simply don’t care, turning them to criminals of which serial killing is an example.

How would you describe a criminal? Is it something which you would describe as very wrong or is it just a feeling? Do you feel that you are free from being a criminal and can never commit a crime? All these are questions which can enter the mind of most of the people but are too wary of coming open with it.

A criminal is somebody who does something against the laws governing a system. To commit a crime means to go against the laws prescribed in the book and so, you will be penalized for it in some way or the other. A criminal can be anybody; a person who breaks a traffic rule is a sort of a criminal when you think in the defined terms.

Just think for a second how you would describe a crime. Most of the people say that it is to do something bad. But is it really so? Then how would you define the word bad? Crime is something which has been defined by man himself so that there is a balance between the forces ruling you, namely the good and the evil. Crime can bee called as a way of expressing the evil in you.

Education is something which you are given in order to control the evil in you from turning into something harmful and undesirable to rest of the world. But in most cases education is not enough. There has to be morals drilled into the head of a person from the beginning. It is with this training that you would consider yourself good or bad.

There is always a tendency to commit something which is forbidden to you. This force is a very strong one and can drive you to do something you don’t want to but can’t stop the urge to do so.

Chicago can be overwhelming for visitors since there is so much to do, so unless you have months to spend checking out every tourist attraction, do some research before you go. Most resources are free or inexpensive, and all are easy to access. Spending just a few minutes on each one can help you save time once you arrive in the Windy City.

One of the first resources you will likely consider is the Internet, but even this can seem intimidating due to the wealth of information related to Chicago. Check out websites presided over by either professional travel agents or frequent travelers who have been there often. This way, you will get an idea of the must-see venues for tourists.

You should also check out print publications about this city, such as brochures and books. The latter resource tends to have pages of details about each attraction. On the other hand, brochures about the city usually have more updated information than books do. Additionally, this type of publication usually highlights the most important information you will need, so do not hesitate in accepting brochures that you may see about Chicago.

Of course, if you have any friends or family members in the area, you should turn to them for help before visiting. Not only can they tell you where to go, but they will probably want to go with you, and may even offer you a free place to stay.

Feel free to use all of these sources of information, as you will probably get different answers from each one. Take note of your favorite facts, and then make a list of the attractions that you want to visit, keeping in mind how long you will be there. This way, you are unlikely to run out of time before seeing all the sights that you want to check out.

Crime is used to describe an action which is against a law or something which is illegal. It is a very broad term which describes various things. A crime may be something which is quite minute and harmless to someone, yet a wrong thing since it goes against a set of rules, or it may be something which is done to hurt others.

The rate of crime around the world is increasing day by day. Though human beings have developed a lot in technology and science, and they have been educated in a systematic manner since the time of their birth, it seems they still have the criminal tendencies which remain in their hearts. This is so no matter how educated the people are or how well brought up.
Some people are just born to be criminals. If you look at the statistics you would be surprised to know that most criminals are normal people who never look like one or show any signs of such tendencies. In fact the person you like a lot might be a criminal though you would never dream that he would ever do anything wrong or go against the law in any way.

Crime is something which is simply born in you. Injustice of a system is one, which means that if you feel you have been given injustice in some way there is a good chance that you would turn your back to it. It is one way of looking at it.

Another way of describing a crime is to say that it is something which begins as a pleasure in your heart though you know that it is wrong. There are many criminals who can tell you that they are very aware that what they are doing is wrong but they can’t resist doing it anyways. This is how crime starts and then grows.

Its good news for Charlie Sheen’s fans out there. The actor is reportedly recovering from his illness. He is scheduled to rejoin the cast of “Two and a Half men” according to recent reports of his publicist. Sheen was under intense medication as he was suffering from hernia related symptoms. Associated symptoms were hounding the actor who reportedly was suffering from intense abdominal pains. His hernia condition further worsened when he was laughing while playing host to a TV program. But other reports say contrary beliefs. According to TMZ news, the actor got ill while giving his expertise and comments on porn to Dr Paul Naseef, husband of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Adrienne Naseef. Such an incident was surprising and was a shock to all the fans of sheen.

A porn actress named Kasey reportedly delivered a video footage confirming overdrinking, drug use and other porn related features. She is presumably guided out of the party as she got intolerant. Such an incident is a major shock when all leading stars of Hollywood are pledging against substantive use of drugs and allied products. It has been acclaimed that Sheen reportedly denied use of drugs. Sources linked to a Hollywood reporter confirmed that Sheen was considered for rehab assistance by Hollywood television execs that had reportedly spent millions on their serial project. Many gave gleam assumptions that Sheen would be dying soon as his addiction has catapulted to a daily affair.

Few months’ back Sheen’s manager cleared the picture where Sheen was held for bustling a guy at a local restaurant. Sheen is reportedly the highest paid actor on television with huge fan following. Such disclosures, film critics say would hurt the sentiments of the people and bring a bad reputation for the actor. When the whole world is fighting the menace of drug abuse, Sheen’s disclosure would still question the integrity.

Great news from an unusual domain. In a phase of recession. cutoffs, budget layoffs when funding becomes a big issue, two distinguished member of private equity funds utilized the taxpaying private funds to support charity and not for profit organizations.

Scott and Williams spent nearly 2,00,000 to support their involvement in charity and not for profit organizations as reported earlier. The funds were targeted to meet the needs for seats in lavish fundraising banquets and other associated parties. Scott notably spent the amount on charities where his wife or close acquaintances served on the board of directors. Scott is also believed to have donated a huge amount to a church with which he inked a land deal for the Olympic 2011 bid. In the year 2009, Scott gave full flexibility to turn on the charter of rules and regulations to comply his position as complete autonomy in respect to gifts and other rewards. With the immediate fallout, where the director was immune to any approval, Scott got the flexibility over accelerated donations.

Now after Scott’s departure from the committee board, his involvement with Williams in such shaded dealings is on the verge of disclosure. A recent report from the inspection department of the school raised several questions on the dealings till the departure of Scott. The fiscal report published thereof challenges the authenticity and need for such huge donations.

Notably, Tribune looked at expenditures and calculated the amount to a lofty $525000 to lavish dinners and support to charities. This was actually an incident at a time when school officials were deprived of enough funds to innovate novel technologies and infrastructure for the schools. The tutoring system has thereafter degraded in many pyramids. Many critics have pointed out that ethical and legal matters are highly challenged with the individual’s flexibility with such fund support.

Chicago Public Schools need to be more accountable and funds transpiring from and to the school should be more transparent. That have raised serious questions on spending of taxpayers money. Playing with funds is certainly dangerous. Don’t try it.

There are many advantages to living and working in Chicago. If you’ve never been to Chicago, or if you have only been there on vacation, you might want to consider taking time to travel there. This visit, however, will be for the purpose of finding out as much as you can about what it’s actually like to live and work in Chicago. Give yourself enough time to gather information on living in the city itself, as well as living in one of the many suburbs that surround Chicago. This will be especially important if you’ve never lived in a city before. City life is different, but for some people it may be just the thing. For others, it may not be the best option, so the suburbs may be the better choice. Consider the advantages of living in the city. You’ll be closer to work, entertainment, shopping, and dining venues, and other things. You’ll also be able to use publictransportation.Consider also the disadvantages. It may be more crowded, there may be more noise, and your living space may be smaller. Then consider the advantages of living in the suburbs. You’ll have more room, it’s quieter, and neighborhoods may be more family-oriented. Disadvantages can include longer commute times and higher housing prices. Once you have decided where in Chicago you want to live, make the move as stress-free as possible. There are several ways to do this, including making an advance purchase of a home rather than waiting until you have completely relocated, and familiarizing yourself with the neighborhood through online resources such as school and business websites. You also want to get moving quotes as soon as possible. These moving quotes can vary widely from company to company, and you want to have enough time to determine which company has the most reasonable rates.

The advent of the audio media has been burgeoned by increased responses in recent times. One of the eventful incident is the approval of the Local Community Radio Act by President Barrack Obama. Such an initiative guarantees better participation of radio related projects to community development. The result has been the promotion of a chirp radio system which promises high satisfaction rate among community groups at large. The major fallback is that the law doesn’t guarantee frequency allocation to groups. For better mobility in the radio market. The new law presumably doesn’t have allowance for free frequency space over which most radio stations bleed over .Such a law has far reaching effects on low FM delivery wherein CHIRP(Chicago Independent Radio Project) and others are in single phase filing petition before the Federal Communications Commission for parallel modes of frequency allocation. Potentially in big markets like Chicago, due to audience response and advertising race, the frequency gets jammed leaving less space for low FM delivery projects.

CHIRP takes pride in sharing its dais with fellow DJs who are not very much common in mainstream music but eager to share their voice. Such an initiative drives novel talents across various domains. CHIRP is a novel innovation running 21 hrs a day from the top of a photo album manufacturing plant in the Northwest side studio. Its platform is basically web based and doesn’t get blinded by legal intricacies surrounding radio license. Though it follows the norms of the FCC for noncommercial radio stations. CHIRP audience garnered to 10 percent to 15 percent from the very first day of launch with a targeted audience of 20,000.Thats a great success for a noncommercial radio delivery and indeed holds high promises.

The funding scenario too holds high promises with organizations like Crossroads funds contributing $5000 and MacArthur Foundation for Arts and Culture extending another same amount. Such funds are geared towards alternative events and affiliate programs again showcasing the innovative management principles of CHIRP. This is how it is making news of late.

The Blue Man Group is a show you don’t want to miss. These talented blue men put on a performance that is both stimulating to your senses and funny bone alike. Their use of science, artistic flow, theater prowess combined with music and rhythm has to be one of the most unique shows to come along in awhile. If you are into vaudeville, you will not be disappointed by their mesmerizing affect on your physice.

The Blue Man Group was started by Chris Wink, Mike Goldman, and Phil Stanton in the late 1980′s. Their live performances on the Manhattan streets of New York City gave way to theater performances that began in 1991. This show is one of the longest running shows in New York . They were just three bald men, wearing blue makeup, with the slapstick ability of the old fashioned comedians of yesteryear. Since those days over 60 blue men have taken part in this unique show which encompasses cities like Boston, Vegas, and Chicago in addition to New York City.

Their newest project is a 3-D film, which will be shown in science centers and museums starting in 2011. The film’s director is David Russo. The gist of the movie will be quite unusual, which is to be expected. The blue men begin on the inside the brain of a man who is full of creative and social intricacies. Their presence inside eventually allows him to bring those pent up issues to the outside. The Blue Man Group have made five albums and will write the music for the movie.

They will be presenting their original show at the Briar Street Theater , which is located at 3133 North Halsted Street, Chicago on December 15th at 8:00 pm. The Blue Man Group is a family-friendly performance that will be enjoyed by everyone.

Any football fan is surely aware of the Chicago Bears. Some years, the really good years, the whole country follows their progress throughout the season. Some years, probably the not so good ones, only the people of Chicago and the teams of the Northern Division really know or care.

For the record, the Chicago Bears Club started in Decatur in the year 1919. After two years they moved to Chicago (1921). They played their home games at famed Wrigley field until the start of the 1971 season. Now they play at another famous and well-known field, Soldier Field. The Chicago Bears have won nine National Football Championships, one of which was the Superbowl after the 1985 season. During that season, the team recorded what was called, “The Super Bowl Shuffle”. This rap song hit forty-one on Billboard’s Top 100 list that year. It was also a Grammy Award nominee.

The Chicago Bears have had their ups and downs throughout history and have played over 1000 games since 1920. In November of 2010, they received their 700th win against the Dolphins with a score of 16 to zero. New this year, for the Bears is their online photo store. Fans can get any size picture from just about any era of the Chicago Bears history. If you are interested in a photo, check out their official website.

Currently, the Chicago Bears are ahead of Green Bay, Minnesota, and Detroit in the NFC North, with a record of nine wins, three losses, and no ties. They are 4 wins and 2 losses on their home field. They have four games remaining this season, as of this writing, Their remaining regular season schedule is as follows:

Patriots on December 12th, 2010
Vikings on December 20th, 2010
Jets on December 28th, 2010
Packers on January 2nd, 2010

You can bet Chicagoans are hoping for wins on all these days and then, Superbowl, here we come.

Illinois is seeing even more cases of whooping cough this year, as opposed to last year. Also known as Pertussis, this relatively obscure condition is most prevalent in teen-aged kids. Doctors are advising parents to get their teens immunized again. They are also targeting new parents as a protective measure for their new babies. This is happening all over the country, but the two schools hit most in the Chicago area are Highcrest Middle School and Carleton Washburne School.

Whooping cough was first diagnosed as such in the 16th century. The bacteria responsible, Bordetella pertussis, was identified in about 1906. This bacteria causes inflammation or swelling of the larynx or voice box. This causes the voice box to vibrate as the air is taken in during breathing. This makes a kind of whoop sound, hence its nickname. Other symptoms include sneezing, a runny nose, fever, and the cough. As the condition progresses, symptoms accelerate to heavier and more frequent coughing. At the peak of sickness, a person can experience an inability to catch their breath and possible choking due to their gag reflex being triggered. As a person begins to recover, these attacks occur less and less over an average of two to three weeks, although a person’s immunity will take longer than that to build back up.

Below are some helpful tips for regaining your immune health and staying healthy this winter season. These suggestions are good for any season and for recovering from any condition.

*Keep your hands clean. A very high number of all germ transference takes place when your dirty hands come in contact with your face.

*Eat foods that are rich in Vitamin C, D, and A. Also, take your vitamins, especially if you are around school age kids.

*Get some exercise. Exercise helps with weight, brain activity, and circulation. It also builds up your immunity.

The obesity rate for all Americans has risen substantially in the past few years. But it is certainly on the rise in our children. The children who reside in the Chicago area are no exception.

The main cause of children becoming more obese than in the past seems to be two-fold. First up is the growing dependence on processed foods. Families with two parents, who are both working, don’t have a lot of time to cook good meals at home, especially from scratch. In families where there is only one parent, that mom or dad is probably working two or more jobs. Kids are left to their own devices, many times, and they will eat what is easy and what they like. Processed foods include fast food, boxed food like mac and cheese. Or frozen food like pizza or frozen dinners. Although the situation of these parents is understandable, it isn’t healthy for the kids.

The second possible reason comes from a lack of education on the parents part. In many families, the parents used to be kids who were left on their own because their moms and dads were working one or two jobs, also. They were never taught about nutrition and how to prepare good, whole foods by their parents and now can only provide what they know for their own kids.

Both of these issues can be alleviated by teaching, which the local communities of this country could provide. Giving parents an avenue for the purchase of fresh, whole, real fruits and vegetables such as local farmer’s markets would help the situation even more. Communities should offer classes on proper nutrition and proper cooking methods. Many cities do offer these both Farmer’s Markets and classes in nutrition. One very popular program is the WIC (Parents, Infants, and Children) Program, but parents need to want to learn.

Have you been to see the Windy City Rollers lately? They are ranked number one in the WFTDA standing ahead of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Perhaps you have never attended a roller derby competition. It’s quite a spectacle to see. Roller derby, which by the way, was started in the United States, is a unique and heart-racing sport to watch. It began with skaters racing along a straight track and was slightly popular between 1880 through 1935. During the Depression, teams of 2 people, one male, one female, raced across country on roller skates. This is when it was very popular, for lack of money to do anything else. Today’s form of derby started a short time after the Depression where the point system came into play as well as what contact was allowable. Today, skaters race around an oval track. Points are given when the designated scoring player called a ‘jammer’ laps opposite team skaters. Te ‘blockers’ try to keep this from happening. Contact with opposing players is a must, which adds to the excitement of the game.

There are various organizations or leagues of play which have set rules in place. The WFTDA (Woman’s Flat Track Derby Association) set of rules are the most common and the one that the Windy City Rollers play in. because this is definitely a contact sport, injuries are not uncommon, and include sprains, bruises, and broken bones. Sounds a little like football, wouldn’t you say?

So there you have it. Wouldn’t you like to take in a game sometime? The Windy City Rollers will play the Los Angeles Derby Dolls on Saturday, December 11th, 2010 on a banked track. A banked track is different than a flat one. It takes more agility and concentration. This particular match up would be an excellent time to go see your first roller derby competition. Tickets are available on their official website.

It seems the Chicago Cubs has captured the soon to be 33 year old free agent Carlos Pena. Although the agreement between the Cubs and Pena is only for one year and the tentative amount is somewhere around $10 million, this could be just what the Cubs need. He is expected to replace Derrick Lee as first baseman in the Cubs lineup in the upcoming 2011 season. Last season wasn’t a very good year for Carlos, but the previous year (2008), he had 39 home runs.

So who is Carlos Pena? Born in the Dominican Republic in 1978, he has lived in the United States since he was 12. Carlos graduated from high school in Massachusetts. He spent one semester of college in Dayton, Ohio and went on to study electrical engineering at Northeastern. Pena’s batting average was .324 and he successfully ran home 24 times in two seasons. While attending college, he led his team to one NCAA tournament. Now he is a Chicago Cub, but he has played with many major league teams. Below is a quick look at his previous team allegiances.

2001- Texas Rangers
2002- Oakland A’s
2002- Detroit Tigers
2006- New York Yankees
2006- Became a free agent
2006- Boston Red Sox
2007- Tampa Bay Rays
2010- Chicago Cubs

While with the Devil Rays (now called the Rays) they won the American League Pennant (2008).
Carlos Pena has received the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award (2007), the American League Gold Glove (for first base) Award (2008), and the American League Home Run Championship Award (2009). Carlos Pena’s first base fielding is at .994 for his lifetime. So even though Carlos has had some down years, he has had some really great years, too. Hopefully, he can put his 10 years of Major League experience to work for the Cubs.

More and more research results are showing that interval training is the way to go, if burning fat is your goal. Interval training has been widely known and used by runners and football player, among others, for sometime. But the average person doesn’t really know how it works.

In interval exercise, the goal is to do high intensity exercise for a set amount of time. This is followed by a time of low or slower exercise. The exerciser then steps it up again for the same amount of time as the first. Then a period of slower exercise. This continues in intervals until a total time goal has been reached. Here is an example of an interval training routine:

Start with 5 minute warm up, followed by
1 minute of high intensity exercise, then
1 minute of slow exercise, then
1 minute of high intensity, again, etc.
5 minute cooling down

So how does this particular type of exercise burn more fat? This kind of exercise uses a tremendous amount of energy and burns carbohydrates very quickly. It also promotes higher levels of oxygen in the blood. With more oxygen, the body can move fat out of the stored places back into the blood which will then get burned by the rapid exercise. When the muscles have exhausted the fat and carbohydrates that are readily available, they pull more for their use. Calories, carbohydrates, and fat are burned at an exceptionally high rate. Even after a person has finished their repetitions, the body continues to burn fat for about an hour more. This is different from regular exercise where the body is only burning while the exercise is being done.

The number of repetitions depends on the level of fitness of the individual. But even a beginner can reap the benefits of this exercise and build up their repetitions to where they can see an enormous amount of benefit.

During a visit to the windy city there is a large number of different attractions that you should visit. Chicago is famous simply for the multitude of places that you can see. We shall overview some of the more prominent places to visit below.
A visit to the Navy Pier can not be forgotten. The navy pier is basically a boardwalk deck filled with stores, restaurants and attractions. It is the top tourist attraction in the Midwest United States. It even includes a ferris wheel and boat or segway tours. This attraction is a great place to visit with the family as well.
Should snazzy architecture be your forte than make a visit to Millennium park. During the winter prepare to sharpen up your ice skiis and should it be summer prepare for a splashy swim in the fountain. This park also has a one of a kind outdoor concert venue, making it a perfect place to listen to some music on a sunny day. Don’t forget to bring the dog to this awesomely designed outdoor park.
Afraid of heights? Than you should definitely make a visit to the Skydeck Chicago. This tourist attraction allows the daring to venture out into a see through box which extends outward from the windows of the 103rd floor of the building. Many describe the experience as similar to floating in mid-air. While the ability to look outwards is awesome, this is not an attraction for the feint hearted. Make sure to bring the daredevil in the family.
If your tired of the city then head out to the Six Flags Great America amusement park. The park is open May through October and is located north of the city. Besides rides this location also offers entertainment in the form of shows and music.

In an attempt to gain extra traffic ticket revenue and possibly make the roads a safer place cameras were placed at several suburban intersections in Chicago in an attempt to prevent people from rolling through red lights, instead of fully stopping. While this idea has worked to reduce the rate of red light running, the traffic revenue has fallen short of what was expected.
While the red light cameras had been initially accepted, some controversy exists about their effectiveness in increasing road safety. Often the red light camera would fine those turning on yellow, forcing drivers to either slam on the brakes to avoid turning on a red light or bight the ticket. This has created a dangerous situation which could increase the rate of fender benders, something no vehicle owner ever wishes to experience.
The red light cameras however have netted a revenue hire than the cost to install them and have reduced the number of drivers rolling through red lights. This means a budget surplus and safer roads for those in the suburbs of Chicago.
Across the United States red light cameras are becoming more popular as a method to obtain more revenue and create safer streets. In fact over five hundred cities across the country now use red light cameras. While many communities are adapting the technology it is not a sound replacement for a trained police officer. With automatic traffic control comes failures that can wrongly give innocent drivers tickets simply due to a malfunction or human error. Its important to remember that a human must sort through all pictures to assign tickets.
While red lights in Chicago may now be safer, the lure for other automatic traffic control devices beckons. Devices which record your speed or detect impaired driving may not be too far off.

Chicago is a city filled with many things to do and plenty of things to see. Planning to see it all in a time effective fashion can sometimes be a challenge. With the busy city streets, lines and normal traveling downtime traveling through Chicago can seem effectively. With effective planning and reasonable intuitive ability you can assure that the sights of Chicago are embedded in the memory of your travels forever.
The first thing you need to decide on is how you are going to travel to the destinations that you have decided to visit. Should all the locations be within the busy city it may be wise to take the taxi, a bus or a train. While driving may at first seem like a good idea because of the family, traffic and being unfamiliar with how to drive in the city can make it take much longer to find locations. You must also consider the time wasted as well as the money spent on finding parking and the chance of running into stand still traffic. By taking public transportation it is relatively assured that you and your family will arrive at the location in a timely manner.
Should you plan on frequenting the less hectic portions of Chicago then a car will be better than relying on public transportation. Make a schedule of the places that you plan to visit throughout the day, taking in mind the most efficient route between the various locations to minimize the time spent driving and maximize the time spent site seeing. Call the places you plan on visiting beforehand to make sure that everything is in order. The worst situation you can put yourself in is to go somewhere to find out the tour is four hours later than you had originally expected.

An entire vacation can be ruined by being a victim of crime. By following some simple steps and down to earth procedures while in Chicago. Crime is a problem in every major city and it is easily avoided by not appearing to be an easy victim.
Remember to never carry anything of value while traveling throughout Chicago. Hold onto a small amount of pocket cash for emergency’s only. Carry a checkbook or traveler’s checks only, avoiding credit cards due to their ease of use. Dress modest but don’t wear any expensive jewellery. Always travel in a group if possible and avoid traveling through the city at night if possible.
The second thing you must prepare is your mental self. The best way to avoid crime is to avoid the places and people that cause it. Should someone appear suspicious or ask for money simply ignore them and walk away. Giving money to someone that is begging is not always a good idea, because they could to decide to rob you if they wanted. Drive whenever possible and avoid visiting run down areas. A good way to tell if an area is not a good place to be in is if there is people standing around on the streets, buildings and houses in disrepair and a large police presence.
Always have a method of protection when traveling through Chicago. This may mean being experienced in self defense or holding a knife or gun. Its very important to only use a weapon if absolutely necessary and there is no other probably way out of the situation. Using a weapon is a risk for yours and everyone else’s life that is with you.
By having a plan to avoid crime while traveling throughout Chicago you can assure yourself that you will have a very safe trip.

Eating while on the go can sometimes be a challenge. While in Chicago many are tempted to overeat due to the impressive quality cuisine available. However overeating can lead to health conditions and may be undesirable for those attempting to lose weight. By choosing healthy meal options, visiting the right restaurants and purchasing some healthy snacks its possible to avoid the temptation.
Planning for places to eat while traveling in Chicago is vital if you want to avoid the last minute fast food decision. Try to find locations that are near the places you plan on visiting during the day so that you can maximize the time spent eating and not trying to find someplace to eat. The last thing you want to do is get stuck in traffic while going or coming back from getting some food. Do not be afraid to call ahead and ask what healthy alternative meal options the restaurant offers.
Some things you need to avoid while eating this type of food include salt, monosodium glutamate and fat. These are the ingredients common in fast food as well as the gourmet food offered at many restaurants. In fact this is why Chicago style pizza is so famous around the world, because of the fat in the huge amount of cheese that is piled on.
Eating healthy while traveling can be especially difficult when other people you are traveling with vow for the unhealthy and fast options. While this can be a potential source of travelers conflict, many fast food restaurants do offer healthy alternatives. Also remember to buy some snacks for the trip as well. These healthy snacks could include fruit, vegetables and grain products. If you are creative then you could make your own trail mix .
Just remember to prepare for your healthy eating in Chicago.

Hotels can often be the largest expense for a traveler in Chicago. Learning how to find the best rate on a hotel in Chicago is vital if you wish to spend your money effectively while on the trip. By using the correct search methods and finding hotels which will bargain for a room you can assure that you are paying the true market price for a hotel during your stay in Chicago. Many hotels will charge high prices simply for their location, services or simply out of spite. Learning how to avoid this is vital and can leave more money in your pocket.
Plan out the locations which you wish to visit during your trip and ascertain the best location to get a hotel. By finding a hotel close to the places you plan to visit you can save money on traveling and save time, allowing yourself the time to visit more places at a cheaper rate. Use a map and calculate the closeness of the places you plan to visit versus the price of the hotel.
Hotels tend to be cheaper the farther they are from desirable places to visit and if they offer cheaper rooms and fewer services. Decide what services and room qualities your family really needs. Is excellent room service, comfortable beds and a wide screen TV really that important when it comes to traveling? Once you have found out what your family desires than its time to compare prices at that level of desirability and then compare hotels of that desirability versus their location and price. If you search hard enough you can find cheap hotels in prime locations, making it much cheaper to sleep and shower during a trip.
Remember to negotiate with the hotel owner for a lower price. You never know when they need to sell a room.

Finding a good place to eat while in Chicago should not be too much of a challenge since Chicago is world famous for its excellent style of cuisine. However by following some simple tips and guidelines its possible to eat at the best restaurants in your price range during your stay in Chicago. Remember that a trip without good food is like leaving your taste buds back at work in the office. Please don’t forget your taste buds while in vacation in Chicago.
The first thing you need to accomplish is deciding on what type of food you would like to eat. Whether its pizza, Chinese food, grill style or a hamburger joint you have to find some type of restaurant that has food you desire. Perhaps take the time to make this decision with your family or the people you are traveling with to make sure this is a desirable food choice for them as well.
Once you have decided on the style of food you are going to get you need to decide on the price you are prepared to spend. Eating out with four people can quickly reach into costing one hundred or more. That is just if the price per person is twenty dollars each before tip.
Now that you have had to think about the price range you need to consider the quality of the restaurant you plan on visiting. Perhaps check reviews of the website online or just ask people who work in the area. Just make sure that you review at least once second opinion of the restaurant. The worse thing you can do is give yourself food poisoning while on vacation.
The last thing you need to consider is the distance of the restaurant from your hotel or the location you are visiting.

While Chicago does have its fair share of good places to visit, it also has its fair share of tourist traps as well. Learning how to avoid visiting these traps while visiting Chicago will prevent wasting time and money and ensure that you have a quality trip during your vacation. Tourist traps can make a vacation boring and leave a scarred memory during that time of the vacation.
Investigate the places you plan on visiting thoroughly. This means calling ahead, reading reviews online and talking it through with the people going with you on the trip. Would they enjoy visiting the place or find it boring? Consider the opinion of everyone that will have to go so that democracy is adequately served in terms of enjoyment.
Tourist traps are often marked with low quality advertising and gift shops selling useless trinkets. They tend to be located off of highway exits and display typically boring things such as rocks, collections or other seemingly useless things. While these places can sometimes be educational and exciting, remember to use adequate judgement before paying them to view their supposed spectacle.
While research before visiting the location usually wards out tourist traps its always possible to judge the location upon arrival. Consider things such as the size, quality and price of the tourist attraction as well as the employees present. Should any of these things seem of low quality it would be wise to leave immediately. Tourist traps can be unsafe and designed simply to take your money and run. While they can be a hoot, they can also be a waste of money.
Perhaps you should visit with a travel agency or chamber of commerce while in Chicago. These locations will be able to advise you on what exactly there is to do in the area of Chicago.

Visiting Chicago can be an expensive endeavor after you consider the cost of hotel, travel, food and the places you will visit. By planning ahead its possible to spend as little money as possible while adequately enjoying your visit to Chicago. Remember that not everything worth visiting costs a lot of money and much is often completely free.
The best way to save money is to first plan the cheapest hotels and methods of eating. This could mean staying in a cheap hotel or grilling food and eating food from the grocery store. Its not always necessary to eat out at restaurants. When you do decide to eat out at restaurants remember to order cheap dishes and never go somewhere extravagant unless you are prepared to pay the price.
Make a list of places to visit that are free or have cheap admission. This may include public shows and entertainment, museums, zoos or field trips. Remember that you do not always have to go somewhere to experience a city. Consider going to bars or just walking around to meet and talk to the local people. You can often have much more enjoyment for free acting casually and seeing what happens.
After you have visited all the places that are cheap or free to visit find out how much of your allotted travel budget you have spent. Now that you know how much money you have left consider how much it will cost to travel back to your home. Now that you know how much you have left to spend decide on the best places to visit that cost money. This may include expensive restaurants, a theme park or a specialty show, such as the opera or a play.
By budgeting your money you can still enjoy a vacation. Remember it is not all about the money.

Perhaps you have been laid over in Chicago for a couple days or you have just found yourself in the windy city for a day. Make good use of it! Finding something to do in Chicago should never be a challenge By considering your circumstances such as who you are with and where you are in the city you can find things to do in no time.
The first thing you need to know is how and where you can travel. Should you have enough money public transportation is always an option. If you have little money and no way to travel than you will need to only consider places within walking distance. Once you have determined the scope of travel of which you are capable you need to consider the places that you can afford to visit. Should expensive restaurants and locations be out of your price range consider a cheap play, museum, or public music.
If you can not think of any places to go then consider calling a local travel agency or chamber of commerce for advice on what there is to do. Perhaps strike up a conversations with one of the locals or ask the staff at a local restaurant or hotel what there is to do. Remember that being creative is the biggest factor in finding the best thing to do at the time.
If all else seems to fail then just get out of wherever you are at and walk around the city until you find something to do. Perhaps walk into a local bar or pub or visit a local rave or dance club. Ask about what people are getting involved in around the city. You never know where a random conversation with a random person could lead you to. Chicago is full of a lot to experience.

The bus and the train in Chicago are the vacationers most economical choices for travel throughout the city, especially if you plan on walking around to see the sites. However these methods of traveling can be somewhat confusing and if your not careful could leave you stranded in an unfamiliar place. By learning and planning on how to use these methods of travel correctly you can ensure that you use the train and bus correctly while in Chicago.
Planning to use a bus can be difficult since it often will involve transferring from one bus to another to get to your final location, much the same as when traveling using more than one flight in an airport. Make sure to record the times you will need to get on and off each bus and what time you will need to return to the bus step in order to get back to the place you are staying from the location that you are visiting. Remember that a bus is not always on time and it will often take longer than you expect due to varying traffic and weather conditions.
Taking the train is effective for bypassing all the traffic which a bus can encounter. It also is not delayed by weather conditions as well. When taking the train however it is especially essential that you know which stops to get on and off at and exactly where a train is going. Since there is different possible routes for a train to follow this becomes especially important. Remember that riding the train could be more difficult when with children due to the long time spent among a crowd of people. Trains can become especially crowded when compared to a bus because people are often standing and sitting in any available space on the train.

There is a large multitude of things to see and do while in Chicago. While selecting which of these places or events to visit can be difficult, there is five things every visiter to Chicago should see during their trip.
One of the coolest things to see in Chicago is the Skydeck Chicago, which is known previously as the Sears tower. This location features plastic boxes which extend out of the building on the 103rd floor of the building. This allows the daring to walk outside of the tower and enjoy the impressive view outwards, and especially below. The adventurous should attempt to lay down or do a handstand while in the skybox, if they have the courage.
Another place you can’t miss especially if your traveling with the family is the Lincoln Park Zoo. This zoo has no entry fee and is home to over 1,000 animals for viewing. The zoo includes an impressive array of programs and attractions available for the general public, including a tropical section and dolphin show.
A must see is the Navy Pier, a strip of deck home to shops, events and restaurants. Famed as a must see location for the midwest this is a place that is great to spend a day in. Just be prepared for high prices, as this area is exclusive.
If you are getting tired of the hustle and bustle make a visit to the Millenium Park. This park is famed for its design and architecture, and offers a large expense of land to play and feel free in. It is also home to much musical performance and shows.
The last place on this top five list is the Chicago Cultural Center. This place is a must see for those who love great building design. This location also proudly displays daily musical performances and shows.
